Tom Jones
By Henry Fielding, adapted for the stage by Joan Macalpine, directed by Christine Dunn
23rd – 25th April 2015
Our production lived up to all expectations – a rich, ripe, rowdy and faithful re-creation of the story and spirit of Fielding’s great picaresque novel while, at the same time, offering risqué fun to a modern audience. Director, cast and crew pulled out all the stops to maximise the enjoyment of this unashamedly bawdy 18th century comedy romp with set and costumes to match. This production received a host of nominations for awards in the Somerset Fellowship of Drama’s Phoebe Rees competition and it was most fitting that ‘our Tom’, Ben Hardy-Phillips, received the award for Best Actor under 21. As one reviewer concluded: “This was a production with great confidence in itself, peppered with wonderful characterisation and individual flair.”
