About
FromeDrama started life way back in 1946 and hasn’t stopped since. Check out our past productions page to get an idea of what we have been doing over the last 75 years! The challenge is always to produce drama of the highest quality possible.
We aim for three productions a year, – two full length plays, one in spring, one in the autumn, and a one act play in the summer as part of the annual Frome Festival. We are lucky to have The Merlin Theatre as our home for the two major productions while our Festival venues are varied and have included some outdoor productions and village tours. FromeDrama has an open auditions policy – you don’t need to be a member to audition, so do throw your hat into the ring if you are interested.
On top of that, we aim for two professionally run workshops per year (preferential rates for members), and there are the much loved monthly play readings in the foyer of the Merlin Theatre, which are open to all. These sessions provide excellent opportunities for potential directors to try out ideas, for members to keep in touch, and especially for newcomers to ‘dip a toe in the water’ rather than having to dive in head first!
With more than 80 current members, FD is always keen to welcome new theatre enthusiasts into the fold. And it’s not just acting!! Costume, props, lighting, sound, set building, make-up, directing and producing are equally important. Whether new to it all or vastly experienced, we’d love to hear from you and have you involved.
